LAFDI market report - Friday 3rd July

The Liberum AltFi Disruptors Index registered a small out-performance versus a weak global equity market this week.

Tungsten Corporation PLC finally registered a positive performance after recent poorly received results and subsequent placing. 

International money transfer provider XOOM Corp continued the strong performance of last week with another solid gain.  On Thursday PayPal announced an intention to acquire XOOM in a deal which would expand PayPal’s international money transfer services.  Xoom's shares jumped about 22 percent in after-hours trading to $25.27, above PayPal's cash offer price of $25 a share.

Lending Club, the marketplace lending platform had a torid week in the market with its shares closing at $13.95, the lowest point since its IPO in December, less than half the stock's high print of $29 and below its IPO price of $15. The weakness has been caused by a rash of skeptiscism from the established Wall Street banks and brokers with several reducing their price targets for the stock. A few weeks ago it was reported that Lending Club was the sixth most shorted stock on the NYSE. The short interest amounted to 27.9% of the equity's free float in the middle of June. Those betting against the stock clearly called it correctly, it will be interesting to see whether those skeptics take profits at these levels.
