The new hire will see the £36bn asset manager deepen its expertise in its private debt and credit boutique, nearly three years since its launch.

Hermes Investment Management has appointed Carina Spitzkopf as Director for Private Debt. Spitzkopf joins the 26-strong fixed income team which covers the liquid credit, private debt and real estate debt markets.

Based in Hermes’ London offices, Spitzkopf’s objective is to help develop the business globally within the private debt market. Her duties will include providing in-depth company analysis, industry due diligence and financial modelling.

Spitzkopf joins Hermes from UBS where she covered leverage finance risk and portfolio management of the firm’s loan book. She also has experience in finance having worked for leading banks such as Barclays, Commerzbank and Dresdner.

Patrick Marshall, Head of Private Debt at Hermes, said in a statement: “Spitzkopf brings deep experience of the German SME loan market, which will be instrumental in our growth story this year, as we see ever-increasing deal flow coming out of Germany. Similarly, her understanding of structuring deals will be a valuable asset.”

The new appointment follows a number of new hires across the platform including Nachu Chockalingam as Senior Emerging Market Debt Portfolio Manager.
