Six of the hottest young fintech startups took part in AltFi’s first fintech Pitch Off Competition at the AltFi London Summit on Monday.

Goldex, led by founder and CEO Sylvia Carrasco, was took the top prize after winning over AltFi’s audience with what it claims is the world’s first ethical gold trading platform.

Carrasco told attendees how her mobile app and b2b service offers the best possible gold prices using an algorithm to pick the best execution across several marketplaces.

“We are extremely proud to have won the AltFi’s first Pitch Off competition.  Not only we had the chance to pitch in front of an exclusive audience, we also thoroughly enjoyed hearing the industry views from top fintech players,” said Carrasco.

Goldex claims to save its customers between 8% and 12% versus traditional gold marketplaces.

Of the five other startups in the running was Sam O'Connor, the CEO of freelancer and self-employed banking and accounting app Coconut, who came in second place with his passionate pitch.

Also pitching was soon-to-launch digital pension platform Penfold, represented by cofounder Pete Hykin, Blend Network, the peer-to-peer property lending platform represented by Yann Murciano, and Pawel Tomczuk, chief corporate development officer of Coinfirm and David von Dadelszen, chief operations officer at ICO compliance startup Torca.

Technology journalist Kitty Knowles moderated the competition and AltFi’s Fintech Pitch Off was supported with a prize of two memberships for The Clubhouse, London’s leading business members club which has innovative, design-led flexible meeting and workspaces across four locations in central London including Mayfair, St James’s, Bank and Holborn.
