Santa isn't the only person who works over Christmas. Many people in lots of different sectors will be labouring away over the festive period this year.

If you're one of them there are a few things that you can do to make the whole experience just a little bit more bearable.

Here's the ultimate survival guide.

Embrace the festive cheer

Hopefully, your coworkers and customers will be in a jolly mood coming up to Christmas. Make the most of it. Decorate your (at home) workspace and indulge in a few mince pies. Just because you're working doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it.

Take advantage of flexible working hours

Working over Christmas isn't ideal, do yourself a favour and take advantage of flexible working hours. You might even be able to structure your workday around family events or reunions with friends. Try to sort this out as soon as possible. If you're not sure whether this is an option just ask your boss. If you don't try you'll never know.

Loosen the reins

Lot's of companies take a more relaxed approach over the Christmas period. You might be able to wear casual clothes, talk to your colleagues more, play Christmas music or even finish up work early. Take advantage of these little perks while they last. They will soon disappear come January.

Go to your office Christmas party (if you’re having one)

If you're working over Christmas you might dread the thought of having to attend your office party but this is one event that you shouldn't miss. Show up, put a smile on your face and try to talk to people from different departments. You never know, you might enjoy yourself.

Get enough sleep

Boring, we know, but it's important that you don't get run down while working over the holiday season. Make sure that you get plenty of sleep and a little bit of exercise each day. Those evenings in the pub can catch up with you pretty quickly.
