Australian expenses management platform Cape has recruited two fintech executives who previously worked at Cashplus and Capital On Tap for key roles.

Julian Guppy, who previously scaled up the engineering and development teams of alternative lender Capital On Tap, joins as chief technology officer.

During his time at Capital On Tap, Guppy was behind bringing machine learning to the business.

Guppy is being joined by Andrew Fanner, who takes on the role of chief product and marketing officer.

Fanner has spent the last 10 years at Cashplus, the London-based SME challenger, where he oversaw product and marketing functions.

In this new role, Fanner will be tasked with developing Cape’s product offering by talking to customers and beefing up Cape’s content strategies.

Fanner said: “As we know only too well, SMEs face more challenges than their larger counterparts when managing their money, from the ability to open an account in the first place, to accessing and sharing their data whether that be transactional history or receipts, and having complete control of how company funds are used by employees.

Cape is on a mission to simplify all of those problems, saving businesses money and time in the process."

Guppy said: “We’re developing some genuinely groundbreaking technology which we’re applying to a complex and important set of problems by building one secure place for all teams to spend faster, simpler and more effectively.”

Cape, which is based in Sydney, bills itself as a next-generation expenses management platform, targetting the SME market.

It issues virtual corporate cards designed to help firms strengthen their cash flow.
