Online pension provider PensionBee is launching a new apprenticeship programme within its technology team.

The apprenticeship comes as an extension of PensionBee’s work with digital technology training specialists Makers.

It is targeted at individuals looking to get into a “modern, supportive and growing technology team” and aims to provide a solution to the digital literacy gap.

“By nurturing talent early in their career, we hope to assist those who are new to the industry to develop their skills, and provide access to the knowledge required to excel in this fast-paced and ever-changing industry,” PensionBee chief technology officer Jonathan Lister Parsons said.

“This scheme allows us to hire great people from a wide range of backgrounds by challenging any potential barriers to entry, and welcome a wider range of transferable skills and experiences into the sector.”

PensionBee said it is committed to actively recruiting women into traditionally male-dominated roles and it has worked with Makers since 2016 to get more people from underrepresented groups into the technology industry.

It has also hired several members of its tech team through its coding bootcamp, which has helped more than 3,000 people get started in the tech industry.

“Apprenticeship programmes with a real commitment to creating opportunities for those from less privileged backgrounds such as PensionBee’s have the ability to not only change the face of technology, but to truly change lives in the process,” Makers director of partnerships Grant Jessop said.

The programme gives applicants the equivalent of a foundation degree in software development, including a 12-week intensive coding bootcamp.
