James has been working in global markets and alternative investments for 20 years and as an advisor in the private credit sector for 18 years. Prior to founding Arbour Partners, James headed up fund development at Merrill Lynch’s Alternative Investment Group in London from 2000 to 2009. At Merrill Lynch James designed and originated mezzanine funds, loan funds and other specialist credit programmes for global institutional investors, achieving several market firsts. James began his financial markets career at Morgan Stanley in 1999. Beginning his career in international affairs in 1990, James was appointed Press Secretary to The Prince of Wales’s Business Leaders Forum from 1995-1998. James holds an MBA from The Wharton School, USA and a BA (Hons) from Sussex, UK.

  • Lüth said Raisin is working on developing EFTs with passive fund giant Vanguard while Aikens said Prodigy Finance is looking at different fund structures very closely.
  • Newsome said that two forms of private debt have sprung up. First is $850bn and more mid market private equity based and the second is platform based lending being $50-100bn. He added that a type of ‘fund of platforms’ could happen soon to help the latter grow.
  • Ramaekers said Aegon are planning a long run investment in the private credit space but that it can takes a while before actually buying the first loan in a platform. “It was a year before we deployed money after first meeting Funding Circle for the first time,” he said.
